Words may also be chosen because they are important for understanding the book or because they are used in an especially memorable passage. Note that post-reading vocabulary quizzes also acts as a review of the story because words and the sentences using them, are presented in book order.

Students reading this book, should be somewhat familiar with most the top-ranked words chosen for the quiz. The quiz acts to reinforce words students don't know well while introducing a handful of new words. Avid readers might be better served by the extra credit quiz.
