I can't help feeling that this last bit is directed at me, an arrow flying straight from the hard bow of Miss McCleethy's desire to have the Order resume their place within the realms.
Chpt 1

resume = begin again
Ann retrieves her brush and resumes cleaning, but under her breath she mutters something.
Chpt 2

resumes = begins again
Some resume their work, pulling their garments across their misshapen legs to hide them.
Chpt 4

resume = begin again
I leave it on Ann's bed as a gift and resume my straightening.

Definitions:

(1) (resume as in: resume the meeting)
begin or take again

This sense of resume generally means to begin again or continue after a pause. In usage like, "resumed her seat", it scan also mean to take again.
(2) (résumé as in: submitted her résumé)
a brief summary of a person's qualifications to do something -- typically submitted with an employment application

In practice, résumé is often written without the accented e's.
(3) (meaning too rare to warrant focus)
Less commonly, résumé can refer to any summary.
