(bar as in: passed the bar examination) any of the state tests a person needs to pass to practice law in that state
or:
the association of people qualified to practice law in a particular place -

(meaning too common or rare to warrant focus) More commonly, bar refers to a place where people are served alcohol or other refreshments.
Much more rarely, bar can refer a rigid piece of metal or wood. The legal profession uses the term "bar" in another sense as well; i.e., to refer to a partition (perhaps literally a bar railing) that encloses the part of the courtroom where the judges and lawyers sit and the case is tried.
