The AP Program is run by the College Board. Generally students can sign up for AP classes and then have the option of taking an AP test. Tests are scored from one to five. Most colleges accept a score of 4 or 5 to earn college credit. Some colleges accept a 3 or better.

Some students can earn a year of college credit while still in high school. Students can also take AP tests without ever having taken an AP class. There are study aids available to help students learn the material covered on AP tests.
