centrifugal force

When most people think of centrifugal force, physicists think of centripetal force.
  physics:  the apparent force that causes something to move outward from the center of rotation;

not an actual force — actually the result of an object’s inertia trying to maintain motion along a straight line

Strongly Associated with:   centripetal force
Centrifugal force is sometimes called a fictitious force because when most people talk about centrifugal force pulling outward, they are really talking about the centripetal force that keeps the object from flying outward. The object is just trying to follow a straight line at every instant (and would) were it not for the centripetal force holding it in place.
