Notes:
Dark energy  is responsible for most of the mass-energy in the universe. It is currently the most popular method for explaining the observations of accelerating expansion of the universe as well as accounting for a significant portion of the missing mass in the universe. Dark energy is detectable through its gravitational effects and only shows up over large fractions of the observable Universe.
