Orson Welles’ radio dramatization of this story caused widespread panic in the U.S. in 1938 when some listeners thought the dramatization was a news broadcast.

A loose 2005 film adaptation was directed by Steven Spielberg and starred Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning.
