Dreyfus Affair:  A French army officer, Alfred Dreyfus, was wrongly convicted of treason because of prejudice against him as a Jew. After serving time in solitary confinement on Devil’s Island in French Guyana, he was exonerated in large part due to the publicity Émile Zola created.
