Six Sigma 6 Sigma
Six Sigma was pioneered by Motorola in the mid-1980s and has spread to many other manufacturing companies and today even some service organizations. The name is derived from the Greek letter sigma representing a standard deviation. Six Sigma attempts to achieve 3.4 defects per million products which is 4.5 standard deviations in a normal distribution, but for technical reasons, the name Six Sigma is used.
