More rarely, you will see deferred income refer to income earned by an individual, but not collected until a later date; as in:  "The coaches package includes $250,000 in annual deferred salary."

More accounting detail on the usual sense of the term:  Generally, income debits cash and credits income, but since this is cash not yet earned, the debit is offset by a credit to a current liability.
