Internal Rate of Return (IRR)

  finance:  a measure used to analyze investments which accounts for the fact that a dollar today is more valuable than a dollar in the future.  The internal rate of return (expressed a percentage) is the rate at which future cash flows must be discounted so that the net present value equals zero; i.e., the annual rate at which all returns must be discounted so that they exactly offset the investment amount
