resolution — as in:  a New Year’s resolution

Her New Year’s resolution is to read deeply at least one hour a day.
a firm decision to do something
resolution — as in:  a United Nations resolution

The United Nations passed a resolution condemning the country’s use of chemical weapons.
a formal expression of opinion arrived at by a group vote
resolution — as in:  Her resolution weakened.

She ran each mile of the marathon with increasing resolution.
determination
resolution — as in:  a dispute resolution fund

We anticipate a peaceful resolution to the dispute.
a solution or outcome

More rarely, a resolution can refer to a formal proposal upon which there will be a vote.

Less commonly, resolution can reference a measure of optic detail —as in: "The photograph has excellent resolution."
